Agenda

We are working on our next educational program focusing on Blockchain for Pharma If you want to participate, please express your interest.

FINAL AGENDA

The agenda below represents the program presented on 6 June 2017 for the Pharma Supply Blockchain Forum.

June 6, 2017

Speaker:
Maria Palombini, Director, Communities and Opportunities Development, IEEE-Standards Association
In this session we explore the pros and cons of four solution alternatives to meeting DSCSA track-and-trace requirements. We look at the practicality of each solution from perspectives that include scalability, performance, ability to keep corporate data confidential, cost, and impacts on public health.

The four primary solution contenders are:
  1. decentralized, non-blockchain, “breadcrumb” solution
  2. decentralized blockchain solution
  3. centralized database solution
  4. centralized blockchain solution
By highlighting the strengths and weaknesses of each type of solution, we move the conversation from emotional opinions to documentable shortcomings and capabilities.

IBM is partnering with major retailers, suppliers and regulators to create a secure, trusted communication channel to promote traceable and transparent supply chain operations. In this talk, we will describe the outcomes of a food safety pilot that we completed with Walmart. Blockchain enabled trusted information exchange results in a dramatic reduction in the time and effort required to compile the information needed to do a variety of tasks ranging from safety / sustainability audits to product recalls.
Speaker:
Krishna Ratakonda, IBM Fellow & CTO, Blockchain Solutions

Evaluate – if blockchain is the right solution
Decide – risks vs rewards of blockchain
Move – the actions, decisions, to employ the solution

This attendee driven session will have everyone roll-up their sleeves and design a roadmap of what it will take to move from consideration of blockchain to adoption.

Session Leader: Maria Palombini, IEEE-Standards Association

This session will examine potential design elements for private and public blockchains that go beyond exclusively meeting regulatory compliance and deliver rewards in achieving shared goals of patient safety and supply chain optimization. Topics to be addressed include:

  • Post-market surveillance
  • Targeting drug recalls more efficiently
  • Combatting counterfeit
  • Disrupting the Trend of Sourcing Alternative Supply Chains for Medicine
Speakers:
Tim Mackey, Director of the Global Health Policy Institute; Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology and Global Public Health at UC San Diego School of Medicine

Choice of attending two roundtable discussions at 20 minutes each.
Roundtable topics include:
Industry Governance
The topics to explore are the different models for the Pharma industry to administer a Blockchain solution, what are the roles of the participants, and how could a future interoperable system be funded.
Hosted by: Eric Garvin, Co-Founder, The LinkLab

Data Governance
Blockchain-based technologies, when combined with other technologies and policies, can make it easier to control access, management, use, monitoring and security of your data. We’ll discuss how to maintain data governance and control over your data, and in particular, how blockchain-based technologies can help alleviate this problem.
Hosted by: Robert Barkovich, Founder, HealthLinkages
