The IEEE has been with Bitcoin and Blockchain from the inception. In Satoshi Nakamoto’s groundbreaking paper “Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System”, Nakamoto references the Merkle Tree, from the proceedings of an IEEE Computer Society paper presented at the 1980 Symposium on Security and Privacy.
